How we work at Whole Child Therapy

How we can help

We know families need clear and accessible services that provide measurable, successful therapy. For Whole Child Therapy it is essential that families are entering into therapy that provides them with a sense of control over and understanding of the treatment they receive. Whole Child Therapy is a calm and informative space that makes sure families feel in control and know what they can access both at Whole Child Therapy and beyond.
That is why when you first contact Whole Child Therapy we provide a free and detailed triage process, informing families of the cost, impact, and expectations of any intervention before we ask a family to financially commit or apply for funding.
Whole Child Therapy has developed a service committed to evidence-based interventions, that are current and well structured.

Most importantly we want to create a space where children and their families are safe, have fun, feel successful, feel support and of course play, laugh and find joy.

Our assessments

We are skilled in using and appraising standardised assessments, we make sure we have a variety of assessment tools we can access so as to get the most value from our assessments. We make sure our tool kit is robust so a family can depend on the report to hold up to scrutiny and be well accepted by schools and other professionals involved in their child’s care.

Our reports

None of our reports are cookie cutter, each child has their own story and as such they need a unique and well thought out report. At WCT our team gets time to reflect and complete the report and fully analyse their results. You may also find that the assessing therapist brings in a colleague or different specialist professional, this is to support them, it’s encouraged at WCT to not jump to conclusions and to make sure we reflect in partnership so we can provide robust and meaningful findings.

We are under one roof

Our therapists work together under one roof and provide immediate and smooth communication between all the services involved, thereby improving the therapeutic process as a whole. We invite other team members to join us in our therapy where appropriate, as this helps build a cohesive practice and maximise outcomes. By collaborating in this way we can achieve stronger and more robust outcomes. We are well versed in working with external professionals and statutory services as the need arises.

We are goal focused

We goal set with children and their family to track progress and so that you feel in control. We use our clinical skills to help you reflect on what is achievable and what the timeline will look like. Why do we goal set with parents, schools and other professionals?. A child is more than their sensory difficulties or diagnosis, they need us to view them as a whole, knowing their skills, desires and needs. We need to understand what is important to them so that we can help them make meaningful change.

We set meaningful goals

We don’t set goals that only clinicians understand we also make them meaningful to a child and their family. We understand that using real life situations to goal set makes a true difference to every child and their family.
Our team are trained and supported in meeting a child where they are. We make sure every child that visits, walks out feeling they have succeeded, that they are liked, that we enjoyed their company and we really hope to see them again.
